This was one of our last stops on our recent trip to Bucaramanga. Our host said to get the real cultural experience, we had to go to Giron, to La Casona. He explained the cultural custom of the "onces". So of course we had to try it and did so at La Casona. The area was really interesting to me. We had just come from the busy downtown. I wish we had gotten there early enough to browse around a bit, but darkness was coming quickly as we arrived. The restaurant fit the area so well, I imagine it has been here for a long time. But really quaint, romantic, darkly lit at night. It had a play area for children. And the neat thing to me was that the restaurant surrounded an open garden area complete with a small pond. Really neat place. The food and service was good. I had the onces with tamale. The food was not a lot (it is intended as a snack), but was very good. I was told that the cheese goes into the hot chocolate, and we did so. Even dunked my bread in there as well. Everything was very good.
